After School Music Program

Youth Music Collective 2022-2023

We are excited to kick off a new year of after school music with a new name! Band and Orchestra for Haas Hall scholars is now the Youth Music Collective — Band and the Youth Music Collective — Orchestra. Both groups will meet on Mondays at Thaden School in Bentonville from 4 to 5:30 p.m. In collaboration with Arkansas Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Haas Hall Academy, and Thaden School, we are excited to work with you for another great year!

Important Dates:
Monday, August 29 — 4-5 p.m.
Mandatory orientation is 4-5:30 p.m. at Thaden School for Scholars AND Parents

Monday, September 12 — 4-5:30 p.m.
Classes Begin

If you (scholar) wish to participate in All-Region auditions this year, this meeting is MANDATORY. Scholars who register after September 15 may participate in orchestra, but will be ineligible for All-Region participation.

Eligibility for YMC Band & Orchestra
YMC Band & Orchestra may be offered for credit, depending on your school’s participation requirements. Scholars may participate if they meet minimum skill requirements. Assessment of playing skills will be made in the first few weeks of class.

7th grade
Minimum 1 year of band/orchestra and/or private lesson instruction

8th-9th grade
Minimum 2 years of orchestra and/or private lesson instruction on the instrument

10th-12th grade
Minimum 4 years of orchestra and/or private lesson instruction on the instrument

Credit for the class will be based on Participation, so it is extremely important to attend class weekly and be prepared on class assignments.

All-Region Preparation
All-Region Band and Orchestra auditions are held every year in October with a clinic following later for those who qualify. Most of our class time in the Fall will be focused on the technique and skills necessary to complete this audition. After All-Region, we will continue developing technique, ensemble-playing skills, and will explore other areas of music study. Participation in the All-Region audition is optional, and class participation for the entire year is expected whether the student auditions or not.
