ArkanSONOcamp 2023 Northwest

ArkanSONOcamp 2023 Northwest is a three-day camp that will be held on the UAMS Northwest campus in Fayetteville for 30 students. Primary consideration will be given to rising 10th grade students but rising 11th and 12th grade students are encouraged to apply.

These summer day camps will provide students with an opportunity to work in small and large groups on various guided activities. Examples of the types of activities include: demonstrations of anatomy of major organ systems in the body (e.g. cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems) using virtual anatomy dissector software and real human cadaveric specimens when available, ultrasound imaging of live standardized patients, analysis of 3D reconstructions of Computerized Tomography data, recording of EEG and EKG activity, and using medical simulation equipment.

Students will work in small groups with standardized patients to collect data related to heart rate, blood pressure, pulse oximeter measurements, infrared imaging, and learn how to assess reflexes and cranial nerve function. Each small group will be assigned a faculty and student mentor (e.g., current medical student at UAMS).
