Behind every blood drive is at least one story of how as little as one pint of blood can positively impact a life. Take Mia, for example. She was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) at age two, which meant her body stopped making healthy blood cells. The normal platelet count is 300, but Mia’s was at three. Because of this, she had to have two platelet transfusions everyday to save her. After battling ALL for two years, she is now in the maintenance phase of her treatment. Throughout her illness, she has used 50 units of whole blood and platelets. Her family is so incredibly grateful for the donors who saved her life.
