On April 7th, 2018, Bella Elkins of Haas Hall Academy Bentonville’s campus became the Arkansas Girls Scholastic (k-12) Chess Champion by scoring the only perfect (5-0) in Tyson School of Innovation’s U.S. Chess Rated Tournament. The tournament offered $1,000 in prizes and will provide a grant to pay for Bella’s trip this July to represent Arkansas in the 2018 Girls National Chess Tournament in Madison, Wisconsin. Her win also earned Bella an invitation to Grand Master Susan Polgar’s International Invitational Tournament in St. Louis later this summer. The latter is the world’s richest all-girls chess event with over $250,000 in prizes, in addition to offering participants a chance at several full scholarships to Webster University–the approximate total of a single scholarship being $108,000.00.

Way to make Haas Hall Academy proud, Bella!
